Shreelata was born in New Delhi, the capital of India. She started
learning Bharatanatyam at the age of six and has been performing since
the age of 11. Shreelata has captivated her audiences in India and around the world. She has
given numerous stage and TV performances in over 20 countries including India, North and South
America, France,
the Republics of Georgia and Azerbaijan
in former USSR, Australia, South-East Asia and East
Africa. As a cultural ambassador for India,
Shreelata has shared the rich cultural heritage of India with her audiences in these
countries. Her love of the art and her deep understanding of it are reflected
in her presentations. Shreelata has participated in numerous premier dance
festivals in the different states of India. She played the lead role of
'Ardhanari' in Lalgudi Jayaraman's dance drama, 'Jaya Jaya Devi' that toured 25
cities in the USA and Canada.
Another recent collaboration 'Shringara' showcases her artistry with that of
other leading Bharatha Natyam dancers of the Bay Area in the 25th Anniversary celebrations
of SIFA.
More recently, Shreelata Suresh has been exploring the
spiritual aspect of dance and the significance of its creation. Her choreography
is celebratory and contemplative at the same time, allowing for aesthetic
enjoyment while marked with an underlying complexity that encourages the
discerning to explore this art form at a deeper level. Shreelata has practiced Yoga for over 20
years and has recently begun teaching yoga. Apart from being an active performer
in the dance circuit and a teacher at Vishwa Shanthi, Shreelata is also a
mother of three very active children.
