Prime disciple of kathak maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj, Parna Basu has extensively toured and performed in countries all over the world. Parna was introduced to the Indian national television audience on the critically acclaimed National Program of Dance in January of 2001. She has done several solo and group performances at historic venues in India, such as the Khajuraho temples, the Old Fort, Delhi and the Taj Mahal, Agra. She has also performed at venues in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Malaysia and China, as well as at prestigious venues in the West such as Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, Louis E. Plummer Auditorium, Los Angeles and the Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco. Most recently, Parna was a soloist at the 2006 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
She currently performs and teaches under the banner of her dance company, Nritta Katha.
