Based in Berkeley, California, Shuvani is a performing arts company devoted to celebrating the rich heritage of the authentic arts of the Romani "Gypsy" Trail. A Shuvani is the healer, herbalist, midwife, and "wise woman" of a Romani community--a caretaker of the folk wisdom of the culture through generations. Under the Artistic and Musical Direction of Amy Luna Manderino, the artists of Shuvani hope to increase public awareness of the invaluable contributions of Romani culture to the world of dance and music across genres. The company's unique repertoire of authentic Romani dances is singular among U.S. performance companies.

Shuvani works closely with Romani groups to create programs which are culturally sensitive to the Roma community and performs annually at Voice of Roma's International Rom Day Celebration and Herdeljezi Festival.  The careful research of authentic Romani dances in Shuvani's productions has also been recognized by their inclusion in the Romani Archives at the University of Texas at Austin.

In 2005, Shuvani performed at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, and in 2006 Amy Luna produced Opre! - Dances of the Romani Trail which received standing ovations during its critically acclaimed Bay Area performance run. The full length evening concert featured live music accompanying fifteen different dances from five countries of the Romani Trail—India, Turkey, Russia, Egypt, and Spain.

Artistic and Musical Director Amy Luna Manderino is an award-winning dancer, choreographer, composer and costume designer and member of the dance faculty at the historic world music venue Ashkenaz in Berkeley, CA. Her television appearances include KRON4's "Bay Area Backroads" and the PBS arts program "Spark!" and her resume features performances for the San Francisco Opera and Oakland Ballet, in addition to appearances at the Beijing International Cultural Festival in China, the Jaisalmer Desert Festival in Rajasthan, India, Encontro Internacional de Capoeira in Ubatuba, Brasil and Majma Dance Festival in Glastonbury, England.
