The 11th season of People Like Me
presents a curious character on a quest to find his lost memory. Along
the way he stumbles upon riddles of science such as gravity, light and
shadow, and DNA! Our hero finds himself in a fanciful world of
imagination and shadows, created by ShadowLight Productions, where everything is relative and relatives are everywhere! The Balinese Monkey King from Gamelan Sekar Jaya
weaves the way through past and present helping him search for his
roots. Along the way he encounters ancient rhythms from the traditional
Korean drum dances of Ong Dance Company, and meets the humorous Argentine tango dancers, Marcelo Solis and Romina Hahn. Community and village life embrace him as Lowiczanie Polish Folk Ensemble
presents a lively dance from the mountains of Eastern Europe. Finally
he makes sense of his own origins when the storytelling griots Djialy Kunda Kouyate
fill in the missing historical pieces with their lyrical singing and
explosive dancing. In this voyage, our hero discovers the beauty of
diversity, the importance of cultural traditions, and the connections
between peoples and their expressions around the globe. This
year's lineup is presented in an engaging, educational and interactive
one-hour performance. The theater experience and its supporting
curriculum material present a multidisciplinary and multicultural
approach to meeting recommended State Content Standards for Visual and
Performing Arts, History, and Social Science, and Science, and expose
